TOPICS OF THE DAY.

TOPICS OF THE DAY.

THE letters of “Tam O’Shanter” in THE JOURNAL have always been interesting and lively, and our readers will, no doubt, be pleased to learn that the writer of them, Will O. Pervere, of Lynn, has accepted the New England agency of THE JOURNAL, and will visit the various cities and towns in that section in pursuit of news for our columns. He is an old Fireman as well as a scribe, and we bespeak for him those courtesies Firemen so well know how to extend one to another.

IT will be noticed that new and able correspondents contribute to THE JOURNAL each week, and thereby make a variety of interesting matters relative to the Fire Service. They give us news from all sections of the country and show the interest thaf Firemen are taking in their several Departments. We welcome fhem all to our columns, and shall be glad to hear from every Department in the country. But we have one favor to ask in justice to these correspondents, and that is that while they give us the news in their several localities, they refrain from giving the particulars of every little fire that occurs. Our space is limited and we cannot afford the room to tell the story of each one of the hundreds of fires occurring daily without robbing some one of the opportunity to tell the news of his section. Where a large fire occurs, or one that has any special features affecting the working of a Department we are glad to get the details of it, or if there is anything in it of a humorous nature. But as we want to give all our correspondents a fair show, we beg they will remember this caution, and not write the particulars of every run they have, even for false alarms, as some of them do occasionally.
