TOPICS OF THE DAY.
M. BENNETT, Jr., President of the Connecticut Fire Insurance Company, of Hartford, has accepted the invitation to deliver the annual address before the National Association of Chiefs at their next meeting. Mr. Bennett is Secretary of the National Board of Underwriters, and a humorous writer upon insurance matters, whose letters are anxiously looked for by persons in that business. The Chiefs may expect a treat in his address to them.
AN interesting account of the early Firemen of Brooklyn will be found in our columns this week. The first company dates its organization back to 1785, and among the first members are names that are familiar to-day in New York business and social circles. We shall be glad to receive such historical sketches from other cities. It is always interesting to trace the origin of the Fire Service, and to note the improvements that have been made in the machinery and methods for fire extinguishment.
