THE WORCESTER (MASS.) FIRE PATROL.
At the annual meeting of the Worcester Protective Department, on June 30, officers were elected as follows: President, Hon. C. B. Pratt; secretary, Edward E. Longley; treasurer, Charles E. Grant. Captain Hiram R. Williamson of the fire patrol reported for the year 237 fires and alarms. Losses, $46,428.43, which is the smallest loss for nine years. There had been used 81 extinguishers and 46 fires had been extinguished by the patrol. The box alarms numbered 109 ; stills, 120; telephone, 6; thermostadt, 2. The hours of service at fires numbered 75.56. Hours of extra duty, 172.51. Covers spread on property insured, 263; on property uninsured, 95; roof covers, 19. Insurance on buildings and contents, $201,484; paid on buildings and contents damaged, $41,611.43; loss on buildings and contents not insured, $1,817 i total loss, $46,428.43; total insurance, $201,484. Thete were 20 alarms on the 23d Jays of the months, and but 2 on the 3oths. There were 186 losses under $too. There were ir running over $1,000. The heaviest loss was August 3, 1887, at the shops No. 16 Union street, less, $9070.18; insurance, $69,700; covers spread, 59, The patrol spread 363 covers at 26 fires, an average of nearly I6 fire. The largest number at any one spread was 59, at the fire on Union street, August 3 1887.
