The Water Supply System at Wyandotte, Mich.
Wyandotte, a thriving city of 5000 inhabitants, is situated on the Detroit river, 12 miles below Detroit.
The water-works were built during the fall of 1889 by the city, the cost being covered by an issue of five per cent water-works bonds to the amount of $50,000. The supply is taken from the Detroit river through 530 feet of 16-inch cast-iron suction pipe, terminating in a turned-up elbow located in 24 feet of water. The intake is protected by a wire bonnet screen surrounded by rip-rap, in place of the usual crib, the wire screen being cheaper, considered fully as effective, and offering less obstruction to navigation.
