The Standpipe at Boothbay Harbor

The Standpipe at Boothbay Harbor

A feature of the municipal water works at Boothbay Harbor, Me., is the standpipe which is a prominent landmark for vessels entering the harbor and an illustration of which appears on this page. The water works at Boothbay Harbor serve a population of about 7,000 with a direct pumping system and the storage capacity of 375,000 gallons. The daily consumption is approximately 300,000 gallons. The water works serve the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport. The standpipe has just recently been repainted with Dixon’s SilicaGraphite paint, the last previous painting being nine years ago, also with Dixon’s paint and this long service is regarded as a remarkable one because of the severe conditions in that section of the country, namely, dampness, ice, sleet, and the salt air for which Boothbay Harbor is noted throughout the year. On account of its long service, of which the Boothbay Harbor standpipe is an instance, Dixon’s Slicia-Graphite paint is popular with many water companies throughout the world.
