THE PROVIDENCE COMBINATION WAGON.
The illustration shown herewith is the New England design of a combination chemical engine and hose wagon. It is known as the Providence model, and was constructed principally for the New England fire service by the Combination Ladder company, of Providence. The special feature in this piece of apparatus is, that it provides seating accommodation for the men, the hose being placed under the seats. This does away with the danger of firemen standing on the back or side steps of wagons while going to fires. This decided advantage in the Providence pattern combination wagon must be appreciated at once, as it furnishes accommodation for carrying a sufficient quantity of hose without inconvenience to the crew. An examination of the wagon will show that it is a very perfect piece of apparatus in every respect, and well designed for service in all fire departments.
