THE NEW YORK HYDRANT TEST.
J. THOMPSON & COMPANY, of Philadelphia, Pa., who were represented by F. C. Dunlap, exhibited their improved compression fire hydrant, and straight face double disk gate valve. The hydrant was of the compression type, that has been indorsed by engineers and water works officials as giving the longest service with the least amount of repairs. It is simple, strong in its working parts, and contains a large amount of bronze in its construction, while it can be easily examined or taken apart. It has a positive drip that completely drains the standpipe; not leaving one-sixteenthinch of water over the valve when the hydrant is closed, and its general appearance is an ornament where it may be set.
The stuffing box, opening nut, opening screw and armoperating drip are all of bronze, and are in the cap of the hydrant, where they can be inspected without trouble, or without closing off the pressure or throwing the hydrant out of service.
