The commissioners of water supply, of New York city, are making such progress with their plans for the construction of the city’s greater water supply through Catskill sources that they have felt enabled to announce that advertisements for bids for Contract No. 1 will appear about October 1 and Contract No. 2 about November 1. Contract No. 1 will be from Croton lake to Peekskill and Contract No. 2 from Peekskill to New Hamburg. Dutchess county. T he aqueduct will lie laid thirty-five miles east ot the Hudson, and its length will be about eigbtv-seven miles from Croton lake to New Hamburg. The work from the cast shore of the Hudson to the west shore will be begun at New Hamburg or adjacent thereto. It is estimated that the aqueduct will be 17 ft. wide and 17 ft. high. Estimates of the cost of any of the contracts are not vet obtainable.
