THE MUELLER COMPANY JUBILEE.

THE MUELLER COMPANY JUBILEE.

On Saturday, September 7, the Mueller Manufacturing company, of Decatur, Ill., gave its employes and their families a picnic at the Mechanicsburg Chautauqua grounds to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of business in Decatur by H. Mueller, founder of the Mueller company. Twenty-five hundred were transported to the picnic grounds from Dayton, Ohio, who, with a few hundreds from Springfield and other places, made up the 3,000 guests of the firm. With the exception of a slight inconvenience caused by a thunderstorm, nothing occurred to mar the pleasures of the day, and nothing was omitted by the Brothers Mueller to make their guests happy. Free transportation each way, free music, free entertainment, free banqueting, nothing was wanting, and it is not putting it at too high a figure to represent the whole cost of the pleasures of the day as costing the firm over $r2,000. Among the chief features of the celebration were the exercises in the pavilion, at which were present and seated on the platform, among others.

Governor Deneen and Congressman W. B. McKinley. Adolph Mueller, president of the company, was in the chair. After a bri.-f prayer, the speech of congratulation was made by Governor Deneen, who enlarged upon the necessity of the citizens of Illinois insisting upon the passage of good laws by the legislature for the right governing of the State’s immense agricultural, manufacturing and mining int-rests, for which reason a good legislature was needed. Congressman McKinley gave an interesting address on the Panama canal. One of the most impressive features of tinday’s proceedings was the presentation by President Adolph Mueller of checks of $500 apiece to seven of the company's work people who had been in the emplov of the Mueller firm for twenty or more years and had rendered faithful and efficient service during that time. The terms of the seven recipients ranged from 1871 to 1887. 'Fhe six Mueller brothers were to be seen everywhere mingling with their people and seeing that everything was going on well. The conclusion of the day saw a happy crowd returning home, with renewed and strengthened feelings of attachment to their employers.
