The Incendiary.

The following are the views held by Mr. George T. Hope, of the Continental Fire Insurance Company, in relation to incendiaries: "With regard to incendiarism, we ought to take the broad ground of showing the people, first, that these incendiaries are opposed to the public good—not simply on the moral side of the question; we leave that till they get to God’s bar, and let them find out what becomes of an Incendiary who lias played with fire on earth—but we should show the people that the incendiary is an enemy of this country in his wanton destruction of the values which sweat and blood, and muscle and sinew have extracted ; that he destroys the taxable values upon a broad scale, and ought to be regarded as a public enemy; that by his villainies he succeeds in compelling honest men to pay so much larger prices for their insurance; that they should rebel against it, and when they see an incendiary they should be ready to strike him at once."
