The Hand Engine Still Serves
DOCTOR BORIS, our most prominent veterinarian, had taken care of our beloved German police dog and had pulled him through a very nasty case of distemper. We consequently had a very warm spot in our hearts for the smallish, dapper, and bearded little man. The Doctor, though living and practicing in Ecuador, was a Russian. He had studied at the well known school at Alfort, France, and was exceptionally good at his profession. His English was an abomination, but he spoke excellent French, in which language we conversed with fair success.
