Negotiations between the officials of the London County Council and the Metropolitan Water Board have resulted in a provisional agreement between the two bodies under which (1) In the cases in which there does not appear to be any apparent benefit to the water board’s undertaking, the whole cost of improving the water supply shall be paid by the County Council; (2) in the cases in which there is an apparent benefit to the board’s undertaking the cost will be equally divided between the two bodies; (3) in one case in which there is no immediate ben. fit but a probable prospective benefit to the board, the council will pay three-quarters and the board one quarter of the cost. The agreement relates to extensions, connections and improvements of water mains—twelve schemes in all—which were the subject of the recent arbitration. The total cost of the schemes, already carried out or contemplated. is £6,789. of which the council will pay £3,878 and the board £2,911,
