At the Galveston Firemen’s Convention the certificates presented by the two colored delegntes from San Antonio were an embarrassing spectre that haunted the Convention in its early labors. The Committee on Credentials passed upon the validity of all other certificates, but modestly acknowledged their limited functions in the premises, and asked the appointment of a special committee on those two credentials from San Antonio. The special committee was appointed, but the question so agitated the delegates that it was taken up and disposed of in the negative, that is to say, denying them seats in the Convention before the special committee made a report. This decision was the unqualified sentiment of the delegates, as the vote was almost unanimous.
