The Chief As a Civic Influence
It is becoming more and more recognized that the chief of the fire department must be reckoned with in all matters civic, that, deal in any way with Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. Campaigns that contemplate the reduction of the fire loss of the municipality, no matter what their origin, must take into consideration the co-operation of the head of the fire department.
This, of course, is quite logical. The chief, to hold the position he does, must be an expert in everything connected with the ever present battle against the destroying element. He knows better than any other individual in the community the fire hazards and weak spots of the city or town. He understands more thoroughly what is necessary to be done to eliminate or remedy such defects in the defense against fire. He can advise best as to precautions to be taken by the citizens to protect their dwellings, factories and shops from fire dangers and also to safeguard the community in general from conflagration.
