THE CHICAGO WATER SUPPLY.

THE CHICAGO WATER SUPPLY.

CHICAGO'S water trouble seems never to end. It is but recently that the four-mile intake was completed ;now it is proposed to extend it very much farther into the lake. In commenting upon the situation, a contemporary says:

The drinking water of Chicago has become so vile that the authorities of the city have been forced to the conclusion that the intake of the water works must be extended farther from the mouth of the river to the four-mile limit. It is proposed to carry the crib at the mouth of the intake, a farther distance of four miles from shore, where the water is thirty-eight feet deep. The extension of this conduit will necessitate an expenditure of about $2,000,000.
