The Cheap Hose Business.
We cut the following from the Public Press of Leavenworth, Kansas, which re-echoes the sentiment so often expressed in the JOURNAL in reference to cheap fire hose. It also supports our idea that the Chief Engineer and his Assistants are the proper ones to decide this ques ion of hose, and we know that the Heads of Departments are bitterly opposed to having themselves placed in dangerous positions by the treachery of "cheap hose,” so often toisted on them by those in authority to pttrchase:
It is with a sort of fiendish delight that we chronicle the fact that our City Council are consulting as 1 to the purchase of new hose for the Fire Department. We hope they will not stand upon the order of purchasing, but purchase at once. It there is one thing that is more needed in this city than another, iLi&a good supply of sound and durable hose. Our city has suffered to the amount ot thousands of dollars by reason of noor, rotten hose, and it is high time that our City Fathers make up their minds to remedy the evil by purchasing a good article.
