Test of New Dallas Water Tower
An official test of a new American-LaFrance water tower was made on April 10 at Dallas, Texas, under the auspices of the Dallas fire department. The pressure was supplied by three motor-driven triple combination pumpers each supplying three lines of hose. Both the deck and tower nozzles were tested working together and separately under high and low pump pressure. The deck pipe with a 2-inch nozzle working singly delivered 1,400 gallons per minute with a pressure of 140 pounds. Both deck and tower nozzles working together, the 2-inch tower nozzle delivered a stream at 150 pounds pressure and the deck nozzle at 130 pounds. The tower was used at its normal height of 40 feet and also extended to a height of 65 feet.
The test was witnessed by Fire and Police Commissioner Louis S. Turley, Finance Commissioner and Mayor-Elect Louis Blaylock, Water Commissioner Fred Appel and Fire Chief Thomas A. Myers.
