An Albany dispatch, under date of June 23. says that Attorney-General O’Malley has told the State civil service commission that, the positions of superintendent of fires and fire patrolmen created by an act of the last legislature to provide better safeguards against forest fires are exempt from civil service examination, and the State commission is required to certify the salaries of the appointees. Attorney-General O’Malley had been asked for an opinion by the commission as to the validity of the law, which is in conflict with the civil service laws. The Attorney-General says;
