State Fire Prevention Law Proposed for Massachusetts

Legislation to provide for the creation of a State building department to enforce a new set of building laws to apply uniformity to all sections of Massachusetts is contained in the report filed with the Legislature last week by the State Building Law Commission which was appointed by Governor Foss two years ago. The proposed "law would extend the provisions of the Boston metropolitan district fire hazard law to the entire State. It would make the present fire prevention commissioner and his force one of the departments of the new State Building Dcptartment. It also provides that the present building inspection department of the Massachusetts District Police, with its head, the deputy now in charge, shall be another branch of the proposed new State department. About these two present departments the commission would form the new and larger department.
