Snow Used to Stop Fire
Cherry Valley, N. Y., Volunteer fire fighters under Chief Edward W. Shipway used snow to extinguish a fire last December. Flame had involved the flooring of a mountainside building over half a mile from the nearest road.
Fire fighters carried three back-pack pumps to the scene and supplemented this effort by sweeping snow into piles which were then employed to help knock down the flames.
