Second Conduit at Syracuse Progresses.

The building of the second conduit line from Skaneateles to Syracuse, which is to add to the water supply of Syracuse sufficiently to meet all needs for another twenty years and more, is going forward satisfactorily. When one thinks back to the building of the first line, the physical obstacles encountered, the legal difficulties met, the fear of breaks and the vigorous and sustained opposition of the village itself, the progress made with the parallel line is gratifying.

There remains about a mile of construction upon the first section, that beginning at Skaneateles. The greatest difficulty met in the building of the original line was upon this section, difficulties so great that the contractors surrendered and the water board completed the job. Profiting by this experience, there was a considerable change in route to avoid quicksand upon this year’s contract, and while the way of the contractor has not been easy, there is every promise that the work will he comp 1 e t e d in reasonable time. Upon the other section the work has gone forward expeditiously. The line is now being carried along Kenneth street to reach University Hill, which with the new conduit will feci no longer the effects of a supply too small for our needs.
