School House Burned at Santa Cruz

The high school building at Santa Cruz, Cal., was wholly consumed by fire September 30. The building, which was located on a hill, was 100 by 150 feet, three stories high, and built of wood 20 years ago. It was provided with hose. The fire started in the basement from an unknown cause, and when the fire department arrived the entire building was in flames. In 90 minutes it was wholly destroyed, with a loss of $50,000. The apparatus in service consisted of a chemical hose wagon, two ordinary hose wagons and a ladder ruck. Seven 1 1/8-inch streams from a gravity water service with 65 pounds pressure were thrown, using 3,000 feet of hose.
