Salary Increase Scales for the District of Columbia Firemen

The Firemen’s Association of the District of Columbia recently begun a campaign to secure an increase in salary for the District of Columbia firemen. The association in a letter to its friends said: "We were given an increase in the year 1906, but owing to the fact that the cost of living has increased 37, and in many instances 50 per cent., our present scale is far below that which is now absolutely necessary. The association in a communication, signed by Secretary W. A. Smith, called attention to the following scales of salaries:

Scale No. 1.—Present salary of fire department.
