Dr. Guilford, the city health commissioner, points out that not a case of sickness has been traced to water contamination since 1911. He says: “City water is free from injurious bacteria, as shown by analysis of the water in the health department laboratories made daily. It is free from colon bacilli and I believe Minneapolis has a right to claim as good a city water supply as any city in the United States. It is a significant fact, too, that since the installation of the filtration plant the typhoid death rate has been decreased from 50 per 100,000 population in 1911 to 5.6 per 100,000 this year.’’ This state ment is also corroborated by reports of noted chemists, who have made recent analyses for independent investigators. To safeguard its purity, the city water is tested every four hours at the pumping stations.
