Residents Protest New Portland Fire Station
Residents in the Alberta Park area of Portland, Ore., have protested the city’s plan to locate a new fire station in a corner of the city park.
Their pleas are based on the contention the firehouse would impair full use of the park, disturb church and school activities and be hazardous. Fire officials countered with an explanation that the site was chosen by “scientific formula” and necessary. They discounted the danger element.
