Quality of Duluth Water Good

A report from the Minnesota State Board of Health upon the examination which has been made of the water supply at Duluth by Chemist B. M. Mohler, of that Board, has recently been received by the Commissioner of Public Utilities of Duluth. The report, in part, is as follows: “The analytical results on samples collected and analyzed at this time show the supply to have been of good sanitary quality. The field survey shows conditions which are satisfactory from a sanitary point of view. In the analytical results, indications of contaminations were not found. This supply can be considered safe for public consumption. The public water supply is obtained fom Lake Superior and is subjected to disinfection with calcium hypochlorite before being distributed for consumption. The supply has been kept under analytical supervision of the Duluth branch laboratory of this Board. Samples are collected every day, except Sunday, from taps in the Lakewood pumping station and in the laboratory. This constitutes a routine investigation of the supply and was made to check up the operation of the hypochlorite administering plant. No changes were found to have been made in the method of pumping and application of the chemical since the last investigation.”
