Pumping Engine Notes.

Proposed extension of Chicago’s water supply system and the advantages of installing new equipment in the pumping stations are being investigated by the city engineer, John Ericson, and H. A. Allen, consulting engineer. The inquiry is being made for the commissioner of public works, who is planning the extension of the system so that it will be adequate for several years in the future. He also has instructed the engineers to investigate the advantages of having the machinery and pumps of the pumping stations operated by electricity furnished to the city by the sanitary district, instead of steam power as at present. It will take several months to complete the report.

The new 6,000,000-gallon supply pumps at the Vicksburg, Miss., waterworks plant, just installed, will soon be ready for operation. The final test has just been conducted.
