Protection of Life in Public Buildings.
The special committee appointed to consider the bill before the Missouri Legislature for the better protection of persons in hotels, etc., presented a report recommending the passage of the bill with the amendments. The amendments are very numerous. Hotels are required to keep hose only on every floor above the second. Provisions are made for improving the inside of theatres, clearing away obstructions to egress, rendering it easy to let out a crowded audience in five minutes. They are also required to be provided with balconies, constructed of iron, not less than six feet wide and thirty feet long. A new section was added, providing for the adoption of fire-proof drop curtains. The Chief of the Fire Department and Commissioner of Public Buildings are given the power to inspect and enforce the ordinance.
