On September 21. a fire in the stockyards of Chicago, Ill., did $275,000 worth of damage. Of the 1,400 horses, all escaped unhurt. One of these stables was the pavilion, a large amphitheatre, in which were held exhibitions of thoroughbred horses and fancy stock. It was valued at $150,000. and, with its contents, w hich amounted to $6 000, is a total wreck. Among other buildings more or less damaged, was the Transit house the largest hotel in the stockyards’ district, the loss on which was $75,000.
