Pre-Fire Plan Averts Conflagration In Grain-Processing Complex
Pre-fire planning, an often talked about subject, but one that is frequently ignored by a lot of volunteer fire departments, brought the Shippensburg Fire Department high praise from the community after averting a major conflagration on the morning of last October 17.
Shippensburg, a small south central Pennsylvania town of 7000 persons, is protected by three progressive volunteer fire companies. Several months ago, officers of the fire department pre-fire planned the Cumberland Valley Cooperative, a large grain-processing and storage facility in the heart of town. The cooperative had announced that they were moving their operation to a new complex located several miles south of Shippensburg, and were effecting a gradual shutdown of operations at the in-town plant.
