Portland Has Effective Fire Prevention Week
Through the combined efforts of the Portland Fire Department, the Chamber of Commerce and the Federal Housing Administration, Fire Prevention Week was observed in a very enthusiastic and effective manner in Portland, Maine, under the direction of Chief Oliver T. Sanborn.
Starting in mid-September, Chief Sanborn, with the co-operation of the local Chamber of Commerce and the American District Telegraph Company, arranged a fire control and prevention school for watchmen, janitors and building engineers. It ran through four Tuesday afternoons. The success of the course may well be measured by the notably large attendance at the final session, held at the time of the crucial game of the World Series.
