Plan for Large Lake in Ohio to Supply Manufacturing Plants

In his annual report State Superintendent of Public Works Frank Fauver, of Ohio, will, it is stated, recommend the construction of a large artificial lake, lying at the intersection of Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage and Geuga Counties, covering about seven square miles, with water from two to thirty feet deep. The lake would be situated three miles south of Chagrin Falls, running south over six miles from that point, and being located midway between Twinsburg and Aurora. The purpose Superintendent Fauver has in mind is to conserve in the lake a great storehouse of water for manufacturing institutions, the. state using the canals as distributors for the water to be sold. Considering that the days of the canal as a means of transportation are over, Superintendent Fauver wants it used to distribute water for sale and developed to the utmost. By completing the new artificial lake the state would have a large supply of water in reserve, so that it could use from spillway enough to fill out what Akron has taken from the canal and still be able to make new and larger contracts. The rate at which it is selling water has brought in satisfactory returns in the past and with new contracts the state, it is claimed, could develop an important source of revenue. If the conservation plan is approved by the legislature, the plan is to develop not only the surplus water, but also to work out plans for a great inland water tesort and also a pleasure park. The resort would be within easy driving distance of Akron and also Cleveland, as paved roadways cover the entire distance. Two steam railroads reach the proposed lake.
