R. W. Lawton, representing the Jewell Export Filter company, has left New York on a long trip in the interests of the New York Continental Filtration company. The trip will probably occupy two years. He will visit England and all the principal European cities Egypt, and India. The company is now installing a number of filter plants abroad, and these will be inspected by Mr. Lawton. Special attention will be paid to plants now under way at Alexandria, Egypt, and Trieste. Austria. A contract recently made with the British government for a nlant in the province cf Mysore will also receive his personal attention.
The board of fire commissioners of Hartford. Conn., in recommending that the salary of Chief Eaton be raised from $2,500 to $3,000 a year, accompanies the recommendation with the following high compliment to the chief’s excellent work in the department for so many years: "He has grown older (says the board), but never was more efficient or capable than now.”
