OBITUARY
Augustine M. Allen.
Augustine M. Allen, chairman of the Haverhill, Mass., water board for 26 years, died suddenly at his home, on the afternoon of February 1, of heart disease at the age of 82 years and eight months. Mr. Allen had been in failing health some time but he was at the water board office on the day of his death, leaving there at about 5 o’clock to go home. Mr. Allen’s daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Carter, who resided with him, arrived home at about 5.45 o’clock and went to the cellar of the house, where she found her father had breathed his last. Mr. Allen was born in Blue Hill, Me., June 1, 1835, and had been a resident of Haverhill for more than 50 years. He was appointed to the board of water commissioners in 1891, at which time the board was created, and has served continuously since that time, at the time of his death being the only remaining member of the original board. He has served as chairman since his connection with the board. During all his 26 years of service on the water board, Mr. Allen was a hard and faithful worker and during that period missed less than half a dozen meetings.
