NOTES ON FILTRATION.
A dispatch from Norfolk, Va., says that the petition of the Bell Engineering & Construction company, of New York, for additional remuneration, on the claim that the company has lost money on the contract for the erection of the new filter plant at the city waterworks, was in small part granted recently by the board of control, the company being exempted from $500 in penalties for failure to complete the works on contract time, and $165 from a flooding of the basin for which they were not responsible. The company accepted the contract for $10,000. When the work was completed it was found that they had lost on the contract. Recently the company appeared before the board asking remuneration.
