NEW YORK STATE FIREMEN'S CONVENTION.
BUFFALO, August 18.—The first day of the fourteenth convention of the State Firemen’s Association has come and gone, leaving to the members pleasant memories of Buffalonian hospitality, and the consciousness of much business satisfactorily ended. Early Tuesday morning the streets were alive with the visitors bound for the Exempt Firemen’s Club House and Liedertafel Hall. The latter was decorated with great good taste, the proscenium arch and walls draped with bunting, and the stage all abloom with flowers. Among these gleamed a number of silver fire trumpets, and from the centre of the proscenium arch hung the Buffalo Exempt Association’s banner, a model of old Rescue Company’s hook and ladder truck, and a trumpet.
The morning session was opened by President Baker, and the address of welcome delivered by Mayor Becker, who was loudly applauded. This was the gist of his remarks :
