New Seagrave “Suburbanite” Tested
The new Seagrave “Suburbanite” triple combination car recently very successfully passed a 12-hour Underwriters’ test. In connection with this test several very interesting things were noted. Not only did this pump deliver more than its rated capacity of 350 gallons per minute at 120 lbs. engine pressure, but on the higher pressure it showed exceptionally well, delivering 254 gallon per minute at 208 lbs. engine pressure and 188 gallons per minute at 255 lbs. engine pressure. A series of short tests run subsequently to the main test showed that the pump is capable of delivering 400 gallons per minute at 120 lbs. engine pressure, and that when taking suction with 50 lbs. hydrant pressure, deliveries ranging from 500 gallons per minute at about 90 lbs. to 145 gallons per minute at about 350 lbs. were obtained. Another interesting point was the noticeable lack of vibration. One could easily stand a lead pencil, 4 or 5 inches long, on end, on the chassis frame adjacent to the pump.
