New Orleans Fire Alarm.
The citizens of the sixth district in New Orleans have for some time been agitating the subject of the extension of the fire alarm telegraph into that section, and have addressed a petition signed by nearly every voter in the district, calling upon the city to make tho desired extension. It may be noted as a strong argument in favor of the city’s ability to yield to the request, that tho Sixth District Firemen’s Association proposes to ultimately pay for the entire cost of the extension—estimated at $9,000—by allowing tho city to deduct from the appropriation for the associut on, under contract, tho sum of $4,500 this year, and $4,600 next year, provided the balance of tho appropriation bo fully paid up, thus guaranteeing that the desired improvements shall cost the city nothing in the end.
