NEW ENGINE HOUSE AT NEWARK.

The new fire engine house recently completed at Newark, N. J., near the Centre street depot is occupied by engine company No. 2. This fine building has been designed with a view to afford ample room for the men and horses of the company. as well as to provide a large hall for the social and business meetings of the firemen’s local organizations. It is built of red brick, with granite foundation and facing, and is a fine, solid structure for the purpose for which it is intended. The interior is finished in hard wood and glazed brick tiling, and embraces all modern improvements in its sanitary arrangements. Its erection was begun about five months ago and under the superintendence of the architect was rapidly pushed to completion. Being located in such a central place the station will prove of great service to the department by affording ample protection to this important section of the city. The new American fire engine with three-horse hitch, will be the only apparatus stationed in the building. With the addition of this fine steamer and its team of splendid horses Newark’s fire service may well feel proud.
