NEW BRITAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT
The fire department of New Britain, Conn., has just held its annual parade in that city. Instead of its being a mere perfunctory observance, as in former years, it was lightened up and made one of great interest by Chief Robert M. Dame and Assistant Chief W. J. Noble. The men presented a very fine appearance, and, with the horses and apparatus, made a display worthy of a town of much greater pretensions than New Britain. The new chemical truck had the right of line, and it was followed by all the other pieces of apparatus, including the big aerial truck The department was reviewed by the mayor, fire commissioners, members of the city council and some visitor*, among whom were George A. Reynolds, hr fifteen years secretary of the Hartford board nf fire commissioners, who conveyed the compli incuts of Chief Krug, of that city, to Chief Dame and his department. After the review the department proceeded to the park, where it gave an exhibition drill. Councilman Ahern and Alder man Andrus were timers of the athletic events In the 150 ft. hose-lttying race and getting water on the results were: No. 4, first, 30% seconds; No. 2, second, 3$ seconds; N’o. 3, third, 37 sec onds, and No. 1, fourth, 39 seconds. Taking out hvdrant length and attaching new length to re place it : No, 1 was first in 18 seconds, No. 2 was second in 20. seconds. No. 4 was third in 27/ seconds and No. 3 fourth in 39 seconds. Connecting with siamese: No. 1 was first in 28½ sec •mds. No. 4 was second in 34 seconds, No. 2 was third in 57 seconds and No. 3 was fourth in 58*.^ seconds The hook and ladder company raised the ladder in 21 ½ seconds.
