National Fire Protection Association

The National Fire Protection Association has issued News Letter No. 9, dated June 1, and states that the annual bulletin on the hazards of the celebration of Independence Day is in preparation, and will be mailed shortly; the time is opportune for it; that the National Safety Council has already requested its members to send in helpful suggestions for making the observance of Fire and Accident Prevention Day a success this year, and that it is equally desirable that members of the N. F. P. A. should do this. The News Letter also says; "The Missouri Inspection Bureau (Member N. F. P. A.) has issued an illustrated report on the destruction of a sprinklered cotton seed oil mill at Caruthersville, Mo. The report brings out clearly’ the need for constant and adequate local supervision of sprinkler systems if these are to function satisfactorily. Manager Harold M. Hess, 1330-1341 Pierce Building, St. Louis, will supply a copy of the report to any member especially interested who may apply to him.” A number of veryinteresting tests have been carried out at the Bureau of Standards (Dr. S. W. Stratton, Member N. F. P. A., Director) on the durability of stucco and plaster construction. The results of the investigation up to April, 1916, have been embodied in a progress report (Technologic Paper No. 70), copiously illustrated. Copies may be obtained for 15 cents each from the Superintendent of Documents, Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C.
