PROCEEDINGS OF THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION, HELD AT NEW ORLEANS-ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL GATHERINGS OF THE ASSOCIATION-MUCH PRACTICAL TALK AND INTERESTING PROCEEDINGS-THE GRAND BANQUET AND FIREMEN'S REVIEW.
The Convention assembled in Washington Armory Hall at eleven o’clock A. M. on Wednesday, October 24. The large auditorium was gay with flags and bunting, and green stalks of sugar cane were bound about the columns. From column to column in the centre of the ball an arch bearing the word “ welcome ” spanned the main aisle. The large oil painting, Lee and Jackson at Chancellorsville, wreathed with flags, was immediately behind the Chairman’s desk, and on either side emblazoned mottoes ; on the left, “ The Army of Peace ; the commanders assemble to arrange the plan of battle for the ensuing year.” On the right, "The Firemen of New Orleans to the Chief Engineers of the United States: 0111 city and our Department extend to you a fraternal welcome."
