Alan V. Brunacini, chief of the Phoenix (Ariz.) Fire Department, is the first active fire service member to be chairman of the National Fire Protection Association's board of directors.
A board member since 1978, Brunacini is also chairman of the association's Fire Service Occupational Safety and Health Committee, which was responsible for the development of NFPA 1500.
