Motor Engine Test at West Chester, Pa.

The new American-La France motor-pumping engine of the First West Chester Fire Company of West Chester, Pa., was officially tested on May 29, under the direction of Chief Middleton, and in the presence of many Borough officers and citizens. The tests were all satisfactory and the engine was accepted at finish of the trial. The engine was operated by the builders’ engineer. From a hydrant through two 200-foot lines of hose, l 1/8-inch nozzles, water was pumped at the rate of 740 gallons a minute. The hydrant pressure was to pounds. The second and more remarkable test was a suction test. Water was drafted from a pond and three streams thrown through 1-inch nozzles 150 feet, at a rate of 730 to 800 gallons a minute. This was kept up a considerable time. The engine ran smoothly and without a hitch, and the work was very satisfactory. The power test run was one to try the abilities of the engine. With about twenty persons on the machine it was run along the road to the Baldwin propertv and thence up a steep hill to Rocky Hill, and then to the General Greene, to West Chester. The engine flew over the smooth road. The test run satisfied all.
