More Firemen—Higher Pay

According to the 1956 Municipal Yearbook, published by the International City Managers Association, Chicago, firemen are getting higher pay, and more firemen are being hired. This, the publication states, is part of a trend that has been fairly steady for 10 years.

Yearly starting salaries for firemen in cities of more than 500,000 population range from a low of $3,000 to a high of $4,689, with the median falling at $4,173.
