W. T. Forbes, for several years connected with the well known La France Fire Engine Company, of Elmira, has resigned his position and has recently accepted the position of General Agent of the Gordon & Maxwell Company, of Hamilton, O.
As an item of news in which a very large number of Firemen in the West, as well as very many who are not Firemen, will be interested, we mention the retirement of our popular friend, [H. F. Wheeler, from the active management of, and in fact, any connection whatever with, the Chicago Rubber Works, which company's success to-day is entirely due to the untiring energy and genial liberality of Mr. Wheeler, and his partner, B. F. Morgan, who also retired some months since. The phenomenal success of this concern under the able management it so fortunately was guided by, we confess we hardly expect to see continued, for it has now lapsed into a branch office and works of the Cleveland Rubber Company, whose "economical methods,” in business, at the Chicago branch, at least, have become by-words already in the West.
