Memphis, Tenn., has reported a low fire loss of $217,785 for 1935. This is the lowest since 1900, and compares with $587,496 for 1934. In 1900 the city had an area of sixteen square miles and the loss was $177,630 for a population of 102,320. At present the area has developed to fifty-three square miles and the population to 265,000.
