Litchfield Opens Water Works Development

There was formally opened on May 5 a new $300,000 water works development for the city of Litchfield, Ill., the program including inspection of the new works by state and city officials, the pumping of the water from the new reservoir into a newlylaid main, and thence to the city’s distribution system, and a public banquet at the Elks’ Club at seven o’clock, p. m.

The agitation for a new water works for Litchfield has been going on for a number of years, but real action in that direction was started in 1921 when a city election was held and it was voted to purchase the old water works from private interests. The purchase was made for $845,000. The mayor then appointed a water commission composed of business men. The firm of Pearse, Greely & Hanson of Chicago was employed to make a thorough survey, and the commission visited other cities to study their water systems.
