J. N. Sullivan Chief of Utica, N. Y.
Herewith is presented the portrait of Chief Joseph N. Sullivan who was appointed at the head of the Utica, N. Y., fire department on March 13, succeeding the late Chief Breitenberg.
Chief Sullivan was born on May 18, 1885, in Utica, and attended the public schools of that city. He was appointed a member of the fire department on September 3, 1907. His first promotion came on December 15, 1913, when he was made a lieutenant. On December 8, 1917, he was promoted to the grade of captain, and on March 3, 1922, became deputy chief and chief inspector of the fire prevention bureau on December 26, 1923.
