Judge Duff did not think this a good way to secure an efficient Department, and he instructed the jury, if they agroed with him, that the Fire Department ought to be controlled outside of the Council, they should bring in a presentment to that effect. This seems a novel way to reform a political abuse, through a Grand Jury’s presentment; but if it works in St. John, we hope to see it introduced in this country. We have too many Fire Departments under tho control of pot-house politicians, and their days of domination should be cut as slj^rt as possible.
